Porous materials for acoustic

We use an emulsion-templating approach to synthesize porous materials and study their acoustic properties. As bulk materials, their acoustic properties strongly depend on both their porosity and on the elastic properties of the polymer matrix. When shaped as small beads using microfluidics (see picture below), they can be used as acoustic resonators and are key-elements of acoustic metamaterials, with possible negative values of the acoustic refraction index. I will present an overview of our recent results obtained with silica and silicone-based materials.
